The US Department of Labor is suing a former New York restaurant owner for allegedly retaliating against employees who filed a class action lawsuit over wage theft. David Ip, the former owner and operator of Ichiban restaurant in Albany, tried to intimidate three workers and prevent them from participating in the lawsuit, the department alleges in a suit filed Thursday, Aug. 25 in federal court in Albany. Gambino Captain From Region Sentenced For Racketeering, Must Pay $1M
A high-ranking member of the Gambino organized crime family of La Cosa Nostra living lavishly in Westchester will spend time behind bars and pay a million dollars for his role in a racketeering conspiracy. Scarsdale resident Andrew Campos, age 51, was sentenced in federal court to 37 months in prison for the conspiracy. The court also ordered him to pay $1 million in restitution and a $15,000 fine. Three federal safety inspections at an area condominium complex confirmed a Hudson Valley roofing contractor repeatedly exposed residential roof workers to potentially deadly falls from heights of 18 to 20 feet, according to federal officials. Three healthcare facilities in the Hudson Valley were among 112 that have been cited for violations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the start of the pandemic in March through Thursday, Oct. 15, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited 112 establishments for violations relating to their response to the virus, resulting in proposed penalties totaling $1,603,544. American Diner Group, Inc., which owns two popular eateries in Hawthorne and Yonkers, has filed for federal bankruptcy protection, according to multiple sources.
