Two Arrested Following Shooting, Discovery Of Guns Two men were arrested following a shooting that left one man with non-life-threatening injuries and the discovery of four guns inside an apartment. The incident unfolded around 9:55 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, when the City of Newburgh Police received a call about a man being shot in the area of Benkard Avenue and William Street, said Det. Lt. Student Charged With Assaulting Teacher At Area School A 17-year-old was arrested for allegedly attacking a teacher at the Newburgh Free Academy. Terrance Melvin, of Newburgh, was arrested following the incident that took place around 2 p.m. Thursday at the school located at 201 Fullerton Ave, according to City of Newburgh Police Det. Lt. Joseph Burns. The school's Community Resource Officer said the attack took place inside of a cafeteria and caused injuries requiring the teacher to be transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment, Burns said.
