Corcoran Twins, Natives Of Rockland, Set For College Beach Volleyball

Sibling rivalry doesn't come up much for Victoria and Veronica Corcoran, natives of New Hempstead in Ramapo.

Instead, the 18-year-old identical twins use their sisterhood to their advantage, predicting each other's moves on and basketball, volleyball courts and softball field.

But this year is different — the girls, now of Closter, N.J. — will be finishing each other's sentences in the sand as they've accepted scholarships to play for the University of New Orleans' beach volleyball program.

"Usually when you play with someone new you have to get to know how they play," said Victoria, the self-proclaimed "shorter twin with a freckle on my cheek."

"But growing up with [Veronica], I know how she plays," she said. "I know her shots. I feel like we have built-in partners."

The multi-sport athletes helped lead their high school's softball team to its second Big North National Division championship in a row this year.

The Corcorans hope to help lead the Lady Privateers to the NCAA's first national beach volleyball championship this spring.

Matches are played in pairs — like tennis. The twins don't know if they'll be split up on the beach. They're just happy that they stuck together for college.

"From day one we knew wherever we were going we'd have to be together," said Veronica, who calls herself "the taller twin that doesn't usually wear eye makeup."

"We just enjoy each other so much."

"And not even in a sister way," Victoria added. "In a best friend way."
