The first burglary occurred at 3:30 a.m. at the Citgo Station at 501 N. Highland Ave., in Upper Nyack, police said.
When officers arrived they were met by a worker who said he was sleeping in the back of the store when he heard noises. Because the store was closed, the worker yelled out and the suspects fled the store with more than $8,000 worth of cigarettes and some money from the cash register. They were seen leaving the area in a black vehicle, police said.
The second burglary took place around 4:20 a.m. at the Lucky Convenience Store at 130 Rt. 303 in Valley Cottage. Police said that a worker who was arriving to open the store for the day noticed that the front door had been pried open, police reported.
The suspects stole a safe and numerous cartons of cigarettes. She was unable to determine their value, police said.
Police believe both incidents were committed by the same people and are reviewing surveillance videos.
