Rockland Voters Head To The Polls

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- This was a particularly viscious election season and Suzanne Schwalbe, a Valley Cottage resident, didn't like it one bit.

"I didn't like the dissing," said Schwalbe, shortly after she cast her ballot. "It was worse this year than usual."

Clarkstown's race, like Orangetown's and Ramapo's, are tense races because three Democratic incumbent supervisors are fighting to keep their seats.

But all the negative mail and mud-slinging campaign literature didn't affect Schwalbe.

"I knew who I was going to vote for," she said. "I just threw all the negative campaign literature in the garbage."

Tuesday has been quiet at the polls so far in Valley Cottage, said poll worker Nancy Larkin. "It's typical for a non-presidential election."

The polls close at 9 pm.
