Rockland Officials Encourage Residents To Take Water Survey

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Residential water customers are being asked to fill out a water usage survey to help SUEZ design more effective water conservation programs for the future.

Rockland County, along with SUEZ, are asking residential water customers to fill out a usage survey to enable the business to plan water conservation programs for the future.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day and the Rockland County Legislature, in partnership with SUEZ, are encouraging residential customers to participate in the survey of consumer habits, so the county will receive a "true" overview to plan for future usage.

Randomly selected customers who complete the survey will receive a free report detailing how water is used in their household. It will include a breakdown of water use by month and by end use (toilet, shower, laundry, kitchen and outdoors). It will also show ratings comparing individual water use to established norms. The report will provide detailed recommendations for the customer to save water, energy and money in the future.

Residents can participate in one of two ways: complete and return the paper form received in the mail; or enter survey responses online at the link provided in the letter. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Monday, Dec. 21, is the deadline to return the completed survey.

"Preserving natural resources is a responsibility we all share. I urge those who receive the SUEZ water usage survey to be accurate and prompt in responding," Day said. "Results will provide a foundation for new conservation programs, enabling customers to use water more effectively and efficiently, leading to lower water and energy costs."

Legislator Harriet Cornell, chair of Rockland's Task Force on Water Resources Management, said, "I encourage residents to participate in this important study of water usage which will provide much-needed information -- not only for SUEZ (formerly known as United Water), but also for the Water Task Force, which is developing a long-term sustainable water plan that will keep water and energy costs down while ensuring an ample supply of quality drinking water for present and future needs."
