Rockland Executive Praises Honduras Crash Victim As Brave, Compassionate

SPARKILL, N.Y. – Rockland County Executive Ed Day, reacting to the news that a Sparkill nurse had been killed in a tragic van crash while helping the poor in Honduras, praised her as compassionate and brave, according to a report in lohud.

Abigail Flanagan, a Sparkill resident and nurse practitioner, was tragically killed while on a mission to help the poor in Honduras this week. She was praised by Rockland County Executive Ed Day as brave and compassionate.

Abigail Flanagan, 45, was on a volunteer mission in the South American country Wednesday when the van she was in suddenly plunged into a ravine, according to a report in the Daily Voice.

Flanagan was a nurse practitioner and a student at the Columbia University Medical Center.

Her 19-year-old son, Patrick, helped organize the trip, lohud reported.

According to the Daily Voice story, two others on the mission were also killed: Olivia Varley Erhardt, 20, and Daniella Moffson, 21, both college students.

Day, offering condolences to Flanagan’s family, made note of her dedication to others and said her tragic death should strengthen everyone's resolve to help the suffering, the lohud story said.
