The incident happened on Saturday, March 23, when damage was found at a home in Pelham Manor on Shore View Circle, according to village officials.  Firefighters soon responded to the residence and evacuated the home after detecting a strong gas odor. Man Killed After Fire Breaks Out At Multi-Unit Structure In Westchester One man is dead, and a woman hospitalized after a fire broke out at a multi-family home in Westchester. Fire officials said that firefighters were dispatched to the building on South 1st Avenue in Mount Vernon at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28. Quick Work Of Firefighters Saves Northern Westchester Home Quick action by firefighters from the Vista and South Salem fire departments saved a family's home following a basement fire. The fire started around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at 87 East St., in South Salem, according to Vista Fire Chief Jeff Peck.  Once on scene, firefighters found smoke showing from inside the home and quickly determined the fire was coming from the basement.
