Westchester HS Volleyball Team Wins State Championship, Capping Off Remarkable Season A Westchester volleyball team clinched a 2024 New York State championship in a victory that solidified its place as a dominant force in its league.  The Charter School of Educational Excellence (CSEE) Owls, based in Yonkers, defeated AECI2 of the Bronx on Saturday, Nov. 9, with a decisive 3-1 victory in the City Schools Sports Association (CSSA) 2024 High School Varsity New York State championship game. US Presidential Scholar: HS Senior From Northern Westchester Gets Top Honor A high school senior from Northern Westchester has received one of the nation's highest honors for students.  Byram Hills High School senior Samantha Milewicz of Armonk is one of only 161 students nationwide to be selected as a US Presidential Scholar, school district officials announced on Friday, May 12.  The US Presidential Scholars Program was created in 1964 and recognizes a few of the country's most distinguished graduating seniors. Third School Steps Up To Help Displaced College Students In Westchester A third university is stepping up to offer a helping hand to students at the College of New Rochelle, which is expected to shutter its doors at the conclusion of its summer semester. In 2016, the college’s Board of Trustees was alerted about “significant unmet financial obligations that had accrued over a period of time.” The Board subsequently launched an investigation and enlisted the help of officials to restructure and manage CNR’s finances. Horace Greeley High School National Merit Semifinalist Samuel J. 'Sabrina' Kaplan Dies At 17 Samuel J. "Sabrina" Kaplan of Chappaqua, an accomplished student at Horace Greeley High School, died of metabolic causes on Friday, Sept. 17 in Syosset at the age of 17.  Later in life, Sam's chosen name was Sabrina. The name Sabrina and appropriate pronouns will be used out of respect for her journey and her wishes. Sam is survived by mother, Nicole Turano of Chappaqua; grandparents Margot and Vincent Turano of Carmel; father David Kaplan, stepmother, Alice and younger half-siblings, Natalie, Arthur and Benjamin of Syosset.
