Now, it will always have an even more special meaning for her.
Gerster said she took her daughters for a walk Thursday afternoon on that trail because she wanted to relax after being "so heartbroken" since Tuesday's presidential election, which resulted in former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton falling short of becoming the first female president-elect in U.S. history.
It turns out she wound up running into someone who may have been out on the trail as well for the very same reason.
“As we were leaving, I heard a bit of rustling coming towards me and as I stepped into the clearing there she was, Hillary Clinton and Bill (Clinton) with their dogs doing exactly the same thing as I was,” she wrote on Facebook.
“I got to hug her and talk to her and tell her that one of my most proudest moments as a mother was taking Phoebe with me to vote for her,” she added. “She hugged me and thanked me and we exchanged some sweet pleasantries and then I let them continue their walk.”
Gerster's photo with Clinton, taken by former President Bill Clinton, had more than 3,000 shares on Facebook early Thursday evening.
The Clintons have lived in Chappaqua since 1999.
“Now, I’m not one for signs but I think I'll definitely take this one,” Gerster wrote. “So proud.”
