The group will partner with local restaurants and bakeries on the campaign during the week leading up to the sixth annual Great Chappaqua Bake Sale event Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival. The campaign will raise money for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign.
“Treats to Beat Childhood Hunger” partners will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of a special dessert to the Great Chappaqua Bake Sale. Participating businesses include Crabtree’s Kittle House, Restaurant North, Le Jardin du Roi, Sherry B Dessert Studio, Quaker Hill Tavern, Ladle of Love, Flour & Sun Bakery, Beascakes Bakery and Breads, Frannie’s Goodie Shop and Tazza Café.
“Extending our community retail bake sale through local retailers was the next step in the Great Chappaqua Bake Sale story,” said Great Chappaqua Bake Sale co-chairs Allison Spiegel, Holly Blum and Jessica Reinmann. “Through the years, GCBS has received support from many local food-based businesses that generously donate baked treats to sell at the event. ‘Treats to Beat Childhood Hunger’ is an extension of these partnerships, which will enable us to further expand our community building and fundraising efforts.”
Since 2010, Great Chappaqua Bake Sale has raised nearly $78,500 to pay for school and summer meals programs in New York. In Westchester County, 200,000 are at risk of food insecurity and 33 percent of those served are children younger than 18, according to the Food Bank for Westchester. Locally, among households with school-aged children, less than half participate in the federal school breakfast and lunch programs.
The sixth annual Great Chappaqua Bake Sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at The Robert E. Bell Middle School, 50 Senter St., Chappaqua. In the event of inclement weather, the event will move inside the school.
