Crews Responding To Reports Of Injured Swimmer At Capital Region Waterfall Where Teen Drowned Emergency crews are responding to reports of an injured swimmer at a popular waterfall in the region. Medics in Greene County were called at around 5:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, for a swimmer in distress at Fawn’s Leap, located near the hamlet of Haines Falls in the Town of Hunter. Crews from the Haines Falls Fire District found the swimmer with injuries, according to police radio traffic. 16-Year-Old Boy Drowns After Jumping From Waterfall In Capital Region A teenager has died after jumping from a popular waterfall in the region. The Greene County incident happened at around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Fawn’s Leap, located near the hamlet of Haines Falls in the Town of Hunter. Greene County Sheriff’s officials said a group of teens, all from Brooklyn, was swimming in Kaaterskill Creek when a 16-year-old boy and a friend jumped from a ledge at the top of the falls. Hiker Dies After Fall In Capital District A Hudson Valley woman has died after she reportedly fell while hiking in the Catskill Forest Preserve. Forest Rangers were first alerted of trouble at around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 22, with reports of a fallen hiker in Greene County, near Platte Clove Road in the Town of Hunter, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The woman, identified as a resident of Hopewell Junction in Dutchess County, was pronounced dead at the scene. Rangers conducted a technical rope to retrieve her body, DEC officials said.
