A convict from the region is facing more prison time for brutally beating his former girlfriend as the woman desperately held onto her baby. Jahaad Ubrich, age 26, of Schenectady, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Schenectady County Court on Friday, Jan. 26. 'Heinous Crime': Man Who Raped 10-Year-Old At Watervliet Home Gets Decades In Prison
A 70-year-old man from the region could spend the rest of his life behind bars for raping a young child. Albany County resident Eric Edwards, of Watervliet, was sentenced to 25 years in prison in Albany County Court on Thursday, Aug. 17. It followed his jury conviction for first-degree rape in June 2023. According to prosecutors, Edwards raped a 10-year-old child at a home on 4th Avenue in Watervliet in February 2020. Gunman Who Killed 16-Year-Old Brother In Troy Sentenced To Prison
A man from the region who shot his 16-year-old brother to death will spend decades in prison. Jatae Gourrier-Lewis, age 22, of Troy, was sentenced to 20 years behind bars in Rensselaer County Court on Tuesday, March 21. It followed his guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter in the death of his brother, Jaylin Gourrier-Lewis. Watervliet Man Sentenced For Sexual Contact With Children
A man from the Capital District will spend decades in prison for sexually abusing a child in Albany County. Ronald Swartz, age 55, of Watervliet, was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison Thursday, June 2, after being convicted on two counts of predatory sexual assault against a child. Investigators said Swartz had sexual contact with a victim under the age of 13 in the Town of Colonie in 2007. Man Sentenced For Bringing Gun To Albany International Airport
A Capital Region man is heading to federal prison for attempting to bring a loaded handgun onto a plane at Albany International Airport. Josef Jarvis, age 32, of Albany, was sentenced to nearly four years behind bars Thursday, April 28, after pleading guilty to illegally carrying a firearm as a felon. Federal prosecutors said Jarvis admitted to possessing the loaded gun and ammunition while attempting to pass through a security checkpoint before boarding a flight in August 2021.
