Six people are hospitalized following a multi-car crash that knocked out power to a busy stretch of roadway in the region. The Albany County wreck happened at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, in Colonie on Wolf Road near Marcus Boulevard. A preliminary investigation found that a 68-year-old Colonie man was heading northbound on Wolf Road when he suffered a medical emergency, according to Colonie Police. A single-engine airplane that departed from Westchester County Airport crashed into a transmission tower in Maryland, causing a massive power outage and taking hours for rescuers to reach the two victims inside the plane. As Tropical Storm Nicole takes aim on the Northeast, Central Hudson Gas & Electric is warning Hudson Valley residents to be prepared for the potential for severe weather over the weekend. Severe weather could be an issue around the region Thursday, July 28. In Rensselaer County, reports of power outages began popping up on social media at around 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 20. Just two days after a similar outage, power was again knocked out to thousands of customers in the Capital District on Tuesday afternoon, July 19. In Rensselaer County, about 12,000 customers in East Greenbush lost power at around 2:20 p.m. due to an equipment malfunction at a nearby substation, according to National Grid spokesperson Patrick Stella. Operations at Albany International Airport came grinding to a halt due to a power outage. At around 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, May 23, the main terminal experienced a total power failure that lasted roughly two hours, according to airport spokesperson Doug Myers.
