Store Robbery Suspect Flees Cops, Crashes Into Schenectady Home, Police Say A 39-year-old man is behind bars accused in a string of commercial burglaries in the region. Scott Vanbergen, of Saratoga County, was arrested Friday, Nov. 17, in connection with an attempted robbery at a Stewart’s Shops in Schenectady, located on McClellan Street. Officers were called after an employee pushed a panic alarm, according to Schenectady Police. The worker told officers that a man had attempted to steal the cash register but was unsuccessful. The Rensselaer County incident happened just before midnight Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Troy’s Lansingburgh neighborhood, according to Troy Police. Drunk, Pickaxe-Wielding Man Breaks Into Residence In Region, Attacks Homeowner, Cops Say A homeowner in the region is no doubt shaken up, but otherwise okay after police said a drunk man wielding a pickaxe broke into his home and attacked him. Authorities in Sullivan County were called just before 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, with reports of an assault and attempted robbery at a home in Bethel, located on Mohawk Trail. State Police determined that the 38-year-old suspect, Daniel Desseauve, of Highland in Ulster County, approached the home carrying a pickaxe and pushed the front door open.
