Earlier this month, the Bronxville Police Department issued a traffic advisory to the community, warning that Midland Avenue was to be closed for several weeks when a depression developed in the roadway as construction continued on the village’s flood mitigation project.
This week, Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin announced that the southbound lanes have been reopened to traffic on Midland Avenue, though the northbound lane “is still a very active work site.” Con Edison has scheduled work to be completed on the northbound lanes by Tuesday, and the road will be completely reopened following the final inspection.
However, as the Midland Avenue emergency work comes to a close, Con Edison has notified the village about an emergency situation on Route 22, near Elm Rock Road that requires them to replace a gas main, Marvin said. It is believed that the line may have been compromised by a persistent water leak in the area that has only recently been repaired by Suez Company.
According to Marvin, because Route 22 is a state road, the village will have no control over closure, detours or construction permits. She reported that work hours will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a completion date of March 20.
