Several fire departments had to race to an old hospital property in Westchester after a debris pile near a 12-story vacant building went up in flames. The incident happened on Tuesday, Nov. 7 around 3:30 p.m., when firefighters responded to the old United Hospital property in Port Chester in the area of Boston Post Road and High Street, where a debris pile behind a 12-story vacant residential building had ignited. A fire that sparked in the laundry room at a Westchester apartment building prompted a fast response from several departments in the area. The incident happened on Friday, Oct. 13 around 3 p.m., when crews were sent to an apartment building in Port Chester at 140 Grace Church St. for a reported fire. A woman who died in a weekend house fire in Westchester has been identified. Cecelia Kussner, 85, was killed around 12:10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, in the fire at 490 Midland Ave. in Rye. Plastic Bag Fee Could Be Coming To Mamaroneck
The Town of Mamaroneck is the latest municipality to propose restricting the use of plastic and paper bags to reduce environmental pollution.Five years ago, town officials drafted and then tabled, legislation that would have imposed a fee on any plastic or paper bags purchased within the Town of Mamaroneck's borders.
