The crash occurred in Orange County at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, in the town of Highlands on Route 9W northbound according to Trooper Steven Nevel of the New York State Police. Port Chester Police Officer Christopher Bernal, who was driving a 2004 Honda motorcycle northbound on SR 9W, was killed when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, Nevel said. Man Who Fired Shots From Handgun On I-95 Caught By Police A 27-year-old is behind bars after state police say he fired a gun from a car on I-95 in the middle of the afternoon on Sunday. State Police said they received multiple 911 reports of shots being fired near both Exit 32 in Stratford and Exit 28 in Bridgeport at around 3:30 p.m. Witnesses described a bearded man firing a handgun from a gray Ford Focus  northbound on I-95, police said.
