$20K Awarded To 3 Libraries Each In Hudson Valley For Upgrades, Projects
Three Hudson Valley libraries that serve as community pillars have been awarded tens of thousands of dollars in state funds, officials announced. $132K Project: New Downtown Crosswalks Coming To City In Westchester
Several new crosswalks will be coming to a downtown area in Northern Westchester as part of a $132,000 project meant to improve safety. The new pedestrian crosswalks will be coming to downtown Peekskill as part of the city's ongoing $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative, according to New York State Sen. A new park providing access to the Hudson River waterfront has opened in Westchester County. The Sleepy Hollow RiverWalk at Edge-on-Hudson, which will let visitors walk along the river from River Street to the Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse, celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Oct. 31, according to the village's Parks and Recreation Department. A former mayor in Northern Westchester announced his intention to run for a seat in the New York State Assembly. Former Peekskill Mayor Andre Rainey announced that he would run for New York State Assembly in the 95th District to replace longtime Assemblywoman Sandra Galef, who announced she would be retiring after serving two decades in office on Monday, Jan. 10. $43 Million Affordable Housing Development Completed In Westchester
State officials announced the completion of a $43 million affordable housing development in Westchester County. The Dayspring Campus, a development with 63 affordable and supportive apartments, was completed in southwest Yonkers, according to an announcement from the state. A police chief in Northern Westchester is calling it a career later this month. City of Peekskill Police Department Chief Don Halmy announced his plan to retire as of Saturday, Sept. 25, after more than 22 years with the department. Rye Neck Voters Approve $27.6M Schools Bond Referendum
Voters in Rye Neck overwhelmingly approved the school district’s proposed $27.6 million capital improvement bond spending plan. With a vote of 733 to 153, voters approved Proposition One, which includes a $6.28 million plan that will replace antiquated roofs across the district’s three buildings. Proposition B, which passed 608 to 278, includes an expansion to the middle and high school that will add eight new classrooms.
