Bronxville Cross Country Girls Take Manhattan

 BRONX, N.Y. – The Bronxville girls’ cross country team competed in the Manhattan College Cross Sunday, taking first place overall in the varsity competition and second place in two junior varsity races that ran over the 2.5-miles course.

 “It was too warm for cross country, but a great race by Mary (Cain) to get her first Manhattan win and to the varsity for its second consecutive win,” Broncos coach Jim Mitchell said. “Excellent race by Meredith (Rizzo) despite a fall in the back hills to get fourth.  And congratulations to Morgan Nobles for winning the junior varsity race and to the junior varsity for its second place finish.”

 Mary Cain led the way once again in the Varsity Girls Race E with a time of 14:31.1 for first place overall and Meredith Rizzo ran a time of 15:24.5 to take fourth place overall as the Broncos girls scored 53 points with Suffern in second with 101 and Nanuet third with 135.

 Courtney Campbell (16:30.7) placed 13th, Argentina Chrappa (16:34.7) 16th, Amelia Phillips took 19th overall (16:41.8), and Emlie Hoffer (16:50.3) and Nicola Phillips (17:50.9) followed for the Broncos.

 Morgan Nobles paced the Broncos underclassmen, running a 16:46.1 to take first place in the Junior Varsity  Race B. Nobles was followed closely by teammates Delia Hayes (17:10.1) in third and Hillary Rizzo (17:22.8) in fifth place overall as Bronxville was edged in the team scoring by Northport 49-50.

 In the Junior Varsity D run, Veronica Walsh  led the Broncos girls across at 18:50.8 in 30th place overall followed by teammates, Meagan Scotti (19:07.6) and Caroline Muir 19:22.1.
