Homecoming Victory for Eastchester Eagles, 9-7

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Eastchester Eagles soared into a homecoming victory against the Nyack Indians by a 9-7 score.

With less than two minutes left in the game, Nyack was on the 8 yard line with possession of the ball. But the Eastchester defense managed to hold them until fourth down when Nyack was forced to try for the field goal.

The kick looked good but ended up bouncing off the goal post and did not go in, giving the Eagles a slim victory.

"The defense worked hard," said head coach Fred DeCarlo. "They did a good job of holding them back."

But DeCarlo said the decisive play that brought the Eagles to victory came right as third quarter ended, when Eddie Soriano scored a safety breaking the 7-7 tie.

"At half time, we had a gut check," DeCarlo said. "I told them don't worry about the plays you are not making, just get out there and make a play."

De Carlo said he was not pleased at the number of turnovers in the game, but all in all said the game was hard fought and the win was sweet.

Next on the Eagles agenda is a game against Somers who have only lost one game this season.

"I know we are going to work hard to beat them, but this win will give us a good momentum," DeCarlo said.
