TUCKAHOE, N.Y. Flood waters rushing through a tributary of the Bronx River have subsided and were well below the three foot retaining wall just 24 hours after Irene left Tuckahoe.
Members of the Tuckahoe Department of Public Works were back at work Monday on Yonkers Avenue, where only one day earlier Tropical Storm Irene left a huge, three-foot-deep puddle. The puddle, located in a low-lying area, was flanked by the swollen river, which threatened to continue to rise.
Mayor Steve Ecklond reported some power outages in the village and some tree limbs and debris that still need to be cleaned up.
To that end, the Ecklond has temporarily suspended restrictions on gas-fired leaf blowers in the village.
"With the cleanup now underway, we will allow relief from our Gas Powered Leaf Blower Restriction for a week while property owners, their contractors and our Public Works Department tend to the restoration of their property," the Mayor said in a statement issued Monday.
In Eastchester, the safe center located at Lake Isle is now closed due to power outages at the club.
Eastchester suffered only minor damage from Irene, including a downed tree on Leewood Drive and a precariously dangling telephone pole on Wilmot Road, both of which have since been removed.
"Considering the amount of damage we were anticipating, and the small amount we got, I feel we are very, very fortunate," Colavita said.
