EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Irish eyes weren't the only ones smiling in Eastchester on Sunday afternoon at the eighth annual St. Patricks Day Parade. Marchers followed the green line painted down White Plains Road from Immaculate Conception School to Lake Isle.
Sponsored by the Eastchester Irish American Social Club, parade-goers cheered for 12 marching bands, two sets of Clydesdale horses and 22 different groups including the Sons of Italy. Bringing up the rear of the parade were Grand Marshall Phil Denning and his fellow honoree Anna Ascione Phelan, a native of Naples, Italy.
"I have got the prettiest girl here on my arm today," Dennin said as he and Phelan marched by.
The parade was followed by a festival at Lake Isle and a dinner dance.
The Eastchester Irish American Social Club was formed in 1966 to bring together Irish-Americans living in Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Bronxville and Crestwood.
When Anna Phelan and her husband, John, joined 15 years ago, she said about 100 people would attend the annual dinner dance. This year, Phelan said, 400 are expected at the dinner dance.
County Executive Rob Astorino joined members of the Eastchester Town Board and Tuckahoe Village Board along with the Eastchester High School Band, the Eastchester Fire Department and the Eastchester Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
The Tuckahoe Tiger and the Tuckahoe High School Band were there and so was Tuckahoe Mayor Steve Eckond as well as local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and students from Immaculate Conception School.
