Connecticut State Police troopers responded to the Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden shortly before 7:20 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, after the four-seater, single-engine plane went down on state property.
According to police investigators, the airplane lost power and clipped a high tension wire, causing a “significant” loss of power throughout the city. The pilot was transported by ambulance to Saint Mary’s Hospital, while the passenger was transported to Hartford Hospital via a Lifestar helicopter.
None of the injuries sustained by either occupant of the plane is believed to be life-threatening, police said. According to paramedics, “the injuries were minor in nature.” Officials have not released the name of the two men.

Police investigators said that the pilot may have been practicing “touch and goes,” which involves practicing landing and taking off. The crash happened close to the Meriden Markham Municipal Airport, they said.
The crashed caused nearly 20,000 power outages, and students got a three day weekend when school officials were forced to cancel classes.
On Friday morning, the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were back at the scene of the crash to further investigate. Crews from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection were also on hand due to a minor fuel leak on the field.
