Jewelry Store Robbery Suspect Arrested

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The suspect tied to a string of jewelry store robberies from Bronxville to as far north as Pleasantville has been arrested.

Donald Jones, 52 of Yonkers, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of grand larceny.  According to the Westchester County website, Jones is currently incarcerated in the Westchester County Jail as of November 20 without bail and is scheduled to appear in Eastchester Court on December 7.  The Westchester County site also reports a warrant for Jones’ arrest was issued in Pleasantville on two charges of grand larceny. 

According to Scarsdale Police Chief John Brogan, Jones was arrested after stealing $15,000 in jewelry from Sam Lehr Jewelry in Scarsdale. He also faces similar charges in Pleasantville, Eastchester, Bronxville, and Tarrytown.  Brogan said they were able to get a lead on the investigation from one of their police officers.  Scarsdale Police Officer Ronnie Arefieg witnessed Jones flee the store and took note of his description and vehicle make and license plates. 

On November 15, two engagement rings from Twin Jewelers on Wheeler Avenue in Pleasantville were stolen, totaling around $8,000 in value.  The suspect snatched the rings from the hands’ of a female worker behind the counter and fled the scene.  Owner Evan Fox described the robber as an African American male in his 50’s with a hunched back wearing a sweatshirt, baseball cap and eyeglasses in which the lenses would change from clear to shaded depending on the light.

The Pleasantville Police Department would not comment on the incident Tuesday afternoon or confirm that Jones is the suspect as they said the investigation is ongoing.

On November 16, Bronxville police reported that around $16,000 in jewelry was stolen from Bronxville Jewelers.  According to police, the manager reported that the suspect grabbed two diamond engagement rings and fled from the store. 

Messages left with the Westchester County Police Department were not returned Tuesday afternoon.
