The art reception is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16. Light refreshments will be served.

The workshop was led by teaching artist Anna Upston. Temari have a rich history reaching back centuries in Japan. Constructed of yarn, thread and recycled materials, the orbs are measured with folded paper, marked and embroidered with cotton thread into jewel-like works of art with a myriad of dynamic, eye catching patterns. The 10-week workshop was supported by a Creative Aging Grant and the Friends of the Bronxville Public Library.

In class, participants learned to create and embroider two to three temari each. A wide variety of techniques, from simple wraps, to complex florals, ensured that students worked at comfortable levels. Great attention is paid to color selection as a mode of expression, memory and personality.
