“I am really, really excited to be here and I’m really, really excited for the upcoming school year,” said Superintendent of School Dr. James Kaishian in his opening remarks, who also introduced new faculty and staff members. “We’ve got a lot of wonderful things happening.”
The day’s keynote speaker was Michael Orth, deputy commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Community Mental Health.
Orth commended the district’s efforts to address the mental health needs of its student population, which included two days of training.
Todd Elementary School music teacher Wilma Messenger, the 2016-17 teacher of the year, also addressed her colleagues and performed an original song about teaching in Briarcliff.
Kaishian also recognized two people who have served the district for 25 years: fifth-grade teacher Joanne Buccini and high school principal Debora French.
