Fox Lane Grad Grippi is Wrestling All-American

Joey Grippi needed to go into overtime on Saturday in order to achieve his goal at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The Springfield College junior and Fox Lane graduate won his match in extra time, sending him to the placing rounds and all-American status.

Grippi went on to finish seventh in the 133-pound weight class, earning all-American honors, which the top eight finishers in each weight class receive.

Teammate Derrick Longo finished third in the 165-pound weight class to also grab all-American honors.

Grippi decisioned Tomithy Wunnicke of Wisconsin-Platteville, 5-3, in overtime, in order to reach the placing round. Despite a loss in the consolation semifinals, Grippi rebounded to beat second-seeded Corey Brown of Thiel, 7-2, in the seventh-place match.
