GOLDENS BRIDGE, N.Y. – The Katonah-Lewisboro School District administrators and employees officially have a new home.

This past week, the district office’s move from the old Shady Lane locale in South Salem to the confines of the Increase Miller Elementary School on Waccabuc Road in Goldens Bridge was completed.

The offices take up space once occupied by classrooms, which, according to Michael Jumper, assistant superintendent for business, were no longer needed due to declining enrollment.

The new space will enable district personnel to work together more closely and efficiently without the division presented by the Shady Lane offices, which were actually three separate structures.

The administration and board of education had been exploring various options for relocating the district office for several years. Increase Miller Elementary was chosen because of its centralized location and ample amount of space. Jumper noted that some of the office space can easily be converted back to classrooms, should the need arise.

Another benefit of the move, Jumper said, is that the district anticipates an annual savings of over $50,000 in electricity, fuel, facility maintenance, and in excess of $200,000 savings in reduced personnel costs associated with operating in separate buildings.

“The relocation brings positive changes for our staff as well as parents and other members of the community,” Jumper said. “We are happy to have made a move that will save the district in costs, while providing convenience and a more effective workspace.”

The district office is now accessible to administrators and visitors through a separate entrance located on the left side of the Increase Miller building, as signs outside the school will indicate.
