Graduates Say Fox Meadow is a School Like No Other

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Last Thursday, 44 students from 23 school districts in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess county graduated from Fox Meadow High School.

Three students spoke at the graduation, and among them was Andres Tanzman who formerly attended the Lakeland school district. At the graduation, Tanzman said that when he first attended Fox Meadow two years ago, he was a "troubled" student, but said, “[I] started working hard, sitting in front of the classroom … and finally began moving toward my goals.” Tanzman has plans to attend the State University of New York at CobleSkill to study culinary arts.

“I couldn’t have made it this far if it wasn’t for my teachers at BOCES, my friends and my parents,” Tanzman said. “Thank you for always advocating for me.”

The graduation, which took place at the Yorktown campus of the Putnam Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) celebrated the Fox Meadow graduates, who are made up of students who have a variety of social, emotional and learning needs.

Another student speaker, Shauna Khan, of Mount Vernon, thanked those at Fox Meadows who she said helped her to re-learn everything from talking to walking.

“Here’s my story. When I was 16, I had a stroke. I had to learn how to do everything all over again, how to walk, how to talk, everything,” Khan said. “Well, I’m walking, I’m talking and I’m graduating. So thank you!”
