Burdick and Gabrielson Regain Bedford Town Seats

BEDFORD, N.Y.—The Bedford Town Board will remain the same for at least the next two years, as incumbents Chris Burdick (D-WF-In) and David Gabrielson  (D) both regained their seats on the town government.

Gabrielson is finishing his first term and has been a resident of Bedford since the late 1990's. He is the executive director for PACE Now, a non-profit organization serving as a supporter for the PACE program. It is an advocate of energy financing, making homes more energy efficient and reducing fossil fuel.

Burdick finished his first term on the Bedford Town Board and has been a resident of the town for nearly 20 years. He is an attorney for Stewart Title Insurance Company in New York City.

The two democrats held onto their chairs, as first-time candidate Luke Vander Linden (R-C) could not garner enough votes, ending with the unofficial tally of 27%. Burdick led the field with an unofficial 41% of the votes, with Gabrielson coming in second with 32%. The unofficial results are from westchestergov.com.

On Wednesday, Vander Linden conceded the race as the latest numbers presented too far of an uphill climb.

“This afternoon, I called my opponents to congratulate them and to say that although all of the machines have yet to be reported, it seems mathematically unlikely for me to close the gap,” he said.

The rest of the Bedford government remains the same, as Supervisor Lee. V.A. Roberts and Town Justice Kevin Quaranta reclaimed their seats unopposed.

Vander Linden noted that although he lost, he is sure the race itself was for the better of the community.

“It has inspired town residents who have never been politically involved to join in the conversation and sparked discussion on issues that matter to town residents,” he said. “I’m excited to stay active in the town committees on which I serve and the many community organizations that make Bedford a great place to live.”
