Bedford’s Finger Teaches Basketball Skills

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Fox Lane High School star basketball player Taj Finger, who went on to play at Stanford University and as a professional player in Germany and currently in Japan, will be home this summer to continue his personal skills programs.

“I’m disappointed that some scheduling conflicts made it impossible to have a two-week local camp this year,” Finger said. “Even though I won't be doing my camp, I am going to continue with individual training sessions this summer with some kids in the area.”

Finger said he will available for personal training this summer. His program includes fundamentals of dribbling, shooting and basically all offensive skills.

"I take all the drills that I have learned through the years, drills that I personally do for my own workouts and tailor them to the level of the student I am working with," Finger said.

Finger was a four-year starter and captain at Fox Lane in the early 2000s, graduating in 2004 and moving on to Stanford, where he played from 2004-2008. Finger led the Foxes to a Section 1 championship in 2004.

As a senior at Stanford, Finger posted career-high averages of 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 55 percent from the field as the Cardinal advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 for the first time in seven seasons.

After graduating, Finger, a 6-foot, 8-inch forward, embarked on a pro career, playing for the German team BG74 and most recently for the Oita Heat Devils in the Japanese BJ League.

"It's tough to try and start up a camp from Japan when there is such stiff competition out there (New York-Westchester area) for boys’ basketball camps,” Finger said. “Hopefully, when I'm done playing and have more time in the area to market I will give the camp another shot.”
