Co-Chair for Parks Adds New Attractions to Gala

As co-chairperson of the annual Friends of Westchester County Parks Annual Best Friends Awards Reception for the past three years, Christopher Cawley is always looking for ways to spice things up.

That’s why the Sleepy Hollow resident and board member for the non-profit organization says this April’s Best Friends Awards Reception at New Rochelle’s Glen Island Harbour Club will feature an indoor putting green in addition to its usual award ceremonies and guest appearances.

“Westchester is a golfing-type of county, and doing it indoors will be a lot of fun,” he added.

It’s also important to add new attractions to "An Evening with Friends" because Cawley says it’s the largest opportunity to gather Westchester residents together for the same cause.

“It’s a good chance for us to raise awareness for the Friends of Westchester County Parks,” he said.

A lifelong Westchester resident, Cawley has memories of visiting Playland as a child and more recently as a participant of the Westchester Triathlon. He also spends time at Croton Point Park with his two young sons, Lang and Magnus, and regularly visits Katonah’s Lasdon Park and Arboretum.

“We have some of the more diverse parks and park structures than anyone else in the country,” said Cawley.

As a real estate broker for Buyer’s Edge Realty, he is able to bring the value of the parks as a selling point to potential residents.

“When I have someone coming from Manhattan or relocating from an international location, the Westchester County Parks are a nice selling point to be able to sway people,” he added. “I don’t think there is a resident who doesn’t utilize the parks in some way.”

The Friends of Westchester County Parks Gala will be held this year on April 11th at the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle.
