Bedford Club To Clean Up Village This Weekend

BEDFORD, N.Y. — Members of the Bedford Village Chowder & Marching Club are about to embark on a cleaning mission this weekend, and they won't stop until they have scrubbed the town's every nook and cranny.

The organization will host its annual Spring Clean-Up Weekend on Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5, said residents Dan and Linda DeMenocal. On those days, individuals will cart away unwanted items from your home for a fee which goes to support youth programs and activities in Bedford Village.

“It provides a well-coordinated, public-private effort to give residents a place to get rid of their bulk waste,” Dan said.

The Bedford Chowder & Marching Club won’t be hauling your old treasures off to the dump, though. The organization, whose goal is to raise funds for local children's activities, will try to find new homes for the items by reselling them at its annual Tag Sale at Bedford Highway Yard. Proceeds will benefit the youth programs in town.

“Our Tag Sale is the ultimate recycling event with as much as a third of the stuff that comes into the facility being resold and leaving the facility,” Dan said.

The Spring Clean-Up Weekend is not the only project for the Bedford Chowder & Marching Club. Last Saturday, residents woke up early to clean up trash on the sides of Route 172 by Fox Lane High School.

"We do it to benefit the children of Bedford and to understand where we came from and why we exist as an organization," said Linda.

If you live in Bedford Village, Bedford Hills or Katonah and would like the organization to pick up your unwanted household items this weekend, call 914-234-0084 or email ChowderClub@aol.com
