BEDFORD, N.Y. Members of the Westchester Oratorio Society will celebrate the groups Sweet Sixteenth anniversary Sunday with a fundraiser for their new season, the sixth under the baton of conductor Benjamin Niemczyk.
The afternoon of music and food will take place at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Bedford. Pianist and composer John Alan Rose and his wife, soprano Sing Rose, will perform selections from Mozart, Liszt and Debussy.
The Oratorio Society, which rehearses in Katonah, will present the first concert of the season on Sunday, Nov. 18, at Temple Shaaray Tefila in Bedford, featuring Schoenberg's "A Survivor From Warsaw" and Brahms' "A German Requiem." The groups spring concert will feature Beethoven's "Choral Fantasy" performed by internationally renowned pianist Helene Grimaud in memory of the society's co-founder, Robert McDonald.
This concert season will also include a performance at the Chappaqua Library, a holiday concert at Muscoot Farm and a sing-along "Scratch Messiah" in Somers.
The Sunday benefit's two featured performers are known in Westchester and Fairfield counties for collaborating as a couple to support local organizations, such as St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in South Salem.
John Alan Rose will also preview an aria from his new family opera, Rumpelstiltskin, which will premiere the following week with the Empire Opera Company at the new National Opera Center America in Manhattan.
