Uncertainty Surrounds Winter Storm Headed To Armonk

A storm system will bring a mixed bag of precipitation to the area Monday night through early Wednesday, but there is still uncertainty as to the exact timing and type of precipitation expected, the National Weather Service said.

Areas north of Interstate 287 in the Hudson Valley are expected to see snow, sleet and freezing rain overnight Monday into Tuesday, when a changeover to rain occurs.

Areas south of Interstate 287 in the Hudson Valley should see all rain from the storm, starting overnight Monday into Tuesday.

Farther north, including Northern Rockland, Northern Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess, snow and sleet are expected overnight into Tuesday followed by freezing rain until around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

During Monday night and into Tuesday morning, a period of ice will glaze some roads and sidewalks prior to a change to plain rain later on Tuesday, said AccuWeather.com, adding that motorists should be prepared for slippery travel and allow extra time for their commute on Tuesday.

In Putnam and Dutchess, the changeover could occur later Tuesday with light accumulations of snow possible, according to the National Weather Service.

South of I-287, enough rain can fall to cause flooding in poor drainage areas, AccuWeather.com said, adding that pedestrians will need an umbrella and a pair of waterproof shoes to get around.
