Earlier report:

How much snowfall should you expect from the winter storm system moving through the area Wednesday?

It depends on where you are, and if you are north of I-287, get your shovels ready.

Parts of Rockland and Northern Westchester could see up to 4 inches. North of I-84, even more. For Putnam, anywhere from 4 to 8 inches, Orange County 4 to 9 inches, Poughkeepsie could see 6 to 8 inches of accumulation and Pine Plains 8-12 inches. South of I-287, 1-3 inches is expected.

A Winter Storm Watch has already been issued for parts of the area, with the watches in effect for Putnam, Dutchess and Orange counties, valid Wednesday morning through the pre-dawn hours of Thursday. The watch is for the potential for significant snow and ice accumulations.

Outside of the watch area, snow and any ice accumulations are expected to be increasingly less from northwest to southeast across the region. For New York City and the coast, much of the precipitation is expected to fall in the form of rain, with some winter type precipitation expected at the onset during Wednesday morning before the changeover.
