As a strong Nor'easter arrives in the area, the most updated forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a mix of snow and sleet with rain Monday night in most spots, with the wintry mix likely to continue for a longer period in Putnam and Dutchess.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect in Putnam until 7 a.m. Tuesday and in Dutchess until 1 p.m. Tuesday.

A High Wind Warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday in Southern Westchester. A Wind Advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday in Northern Westchester and Rockland and a Flood Watch for Rockland and all of Westchester until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Rain arrived around 4 p.m. Monday on a day marked by gusty winds. Some parts of the area, especially near the coast, could see up to 3 inches of rainfall.

The winds, which could gust as high as between 50 and 60 miles per hour during the evening in Westchester and Rockland, could lead to power outages, with the rain becoming heavy at times and mixing with snow and sleet before midnight.

Rain and sleet overnight will become all rain after 3 a.m. in Westchester and Rockland.

Putnam and Dutchess are all likely to see sleet continue through the early morning hours Tuesday. Putnam could see 1 to 3 inches of sleet accumulation. Dutchess could see 1-3 inches of snow, sleet accumulation.

Rain will taper off in the early afternoon Tuesday on a day in which the high temperature will reach the low 40s but strong winds will persist, making it feel more like it's between 25 and 30 degrees.
