Quick-Moving, Damaging Thunderstorms Threaten Armonk

Fair weather that greeted the area to start the weekend could become stormy later in the day Saturday and into the evening.

There is a threat for severe thunderstorms as a front approaches, with the chance of quick-moving storms starting in the afternoon and continuing through about 9 p.m.

The storms could threaten the 6:37 p.m. post time for the 148th Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Nassau County on Long Island.

Some of the storms could be accompanied by small hail and dangerous, strong wind gusts, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday's high temperature will climb to near 80 degrees.

It will clear up in time for a beautiful and breezy Sunday, with sunny skies and a high in the mid 70s.
