PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. Although snow accumulations reached a couple of inches, the first snowfall of 2012 was not a major issue for Westchester residents.
This storm wasnt much of an issue, Pleasantville resident Matthew Brennesholtz said. I think a lot of times people have an over-exaggerated attitude about the storms or they go out driving in their four wheel drive and think they can drive like they can in normal weather and they get into fender benders.
Brennesholtz said he has lived in Westchester for more than 20 years now and that this storm did not compare to larger storms in past years.
As Brennesholtz noted, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety said there was an increase in small accidents on the roads during the storm this weekend.
We had a spike in the amount of accidents out there on the county highways but nothing major and thats expected during the first snowfall of the year, said Sgt. Christopher Simone, public safety officer for the county.
Simone said that all the major county parkways stayed open and there was only a closing on Route 9A in Ossining for a short amount of time over the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, Westchester County may receive additional wintery weather late Sunday into early Monday morning. There is a freezing rain advisory for the county from 9 p.m. Sunday until 8 a.m. Monday morning.
