A busy intersection off the Hutchinson River Parkway is going to be busier this weekend as contracting crews continue construction work as part of the ongoing bridge replacement project in Westchester.
The New York State Department of Transportation advised police in Mount Vernon that they will be closing East Third Street beginning on the morning of Friday, Nov. 30 from Warwick Avenue to the Hutchinson River Parkway. The road is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3 in time for the morning commute.
According to the Mount Vernon Police Department, the closure is to pave the approach to the replacement bridge that was placed. During the closure, traffic will be diverted down to Sandford Boulevard, which will create traffic in the heart of the Target and Best Buy shopping district.
The East Third Street Bridge replacement project kicked off last September. Construction at the project site included the complete removal and replacement of the aging bridge structure and all reconstruction of the parkway ramps to tie into the new parkway elevations.
