A single-vehicle crash caused the closure of a stretch of Route 123 in New Canaan on Friday afternoon. just after noon on Friday Route 123 (Smith Ridge Road) was closed between Country Club Road and North Wilton Road. Quick Work Of Firefighters Saves Northern Westchester Home Quick action by firefighters from the Vista and South Salem fire departments saved a family's home following a basement fire. The fire started around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at 87 East St., in South Salem, according to Vista Fire Chief Jeff Peck.  Once on scene, firefighters found smoke showing from inside the home and quickly determined the fire was coming from the basement. Westchester Woman Found Dead Under Vehicle In New Canaan The identity has been released of a Westchester woman whose body was found under a vehicle at around noontime Tuesday in New Canaan, police said. The New Canaan Police, New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corp and New Canaan Fire Department were dispatched to a residence on South Bald Hill Road on a report of an individual that had been discovered pinned underneath a vehicle and not responsive.  Arriving first responders located the victim underneath the vehicle, and it was determined that the victim was dead and had been underneath the vehicle for an unknown length of time, police said.
