A 69-year-old fugitive who allegedly stole tens of thousands of dollars from a Hispanic community in Westchester through an immigration fraud scheme was arrested in another state and brought back to New York, authorities announced. A victim was scammed out of a large amount of money in Westchester after two women convinced her into giving them a deposit to help them cash a fake winning lottery ticket and then split the proceeds. The incident happened on Thursday afternoon, March 16, when the victim was approached by two Hispanic women in Port Chester on Midland Avenue, according to Port Chester Police. Police in Westchester County are warning of scammers who target members of the Hispanic immigrant community in an effort to get money from them. The scammers have been approaching unsuspecting victims in Yonkers with a promise to share a lottery prize in exchange for a down payment that would be used to purchase legal services or act as collateral, according to a release by Yonkers Police from Sunday, Nov. 13.
