Teacher Wins $4M Libel Award Against Online Blogger
A Rockland County blogger was hit with a $4 million verdict for allegedly cyber-bullying a local Clarkstown elementary school teacher on her blog. Meredith Trussell-Slutsky of Clarkstown was awarded $500,000 in compensatory, and $3.5 million in punitive damages by a state Supreme Court jury on Friday during the trial accusing Carol McIlmurray of libeling her through articles and false accusations on her Rockland Post blog and through other social media posts, according to a news release from Trussell-Slutsky's attorneys. Mount Vernon Building Commissioner Charged With DWI After SUV Crash In New Rochelle
This story has been updated. The Mount Vernon building commissioner was busted for DWI at twice the legal limit after crashing his SUV, police said. Daniel Jones, 46, a Brooklyn resident, was arrested around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday after New Rochelle Police responded to a report of a crash in the parking lot of the Glen Island Center on Pelham Road, said New Rochelle Police Capt. Cosmo Costa. Officers found Jones in his 2017 Ford Explorer after he wrecked his vehicle, police said. Three Northern Westchester Districts Will Get School Resource Officers
County Executive George Latimer has authorized the Westchester County Police Department to provide School Resource Officers to the Lakeland, Somers and Hendrick Hudson school districts. Under separate contracts for police services, the school districts will pay the cost of the officers’ salaries and benefits during the school year, while the County will assume those costs during the summer months.
