Purchase College President Announces Retirement After nearly two decades, Purchase College President Thomas Schwarz, who has been in charge of the Westchester-based school since 2001 has announced his intention to retire at the end of next year’s academic year. Schwarz announced last week that he will retire effective at the conclusion of the 2018-19 school year after 18 years at the helm of the college. Schwarz came to Purchase as an acting president in 2001 and was named to the position permanently two years later.
