THORNWOOD, N.Y. Byram Hills will looking for its third consecutive win and Westlake will be hoping to rebound from last weeks loss when the two football teams meet at Westlake High School Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Westlakes Wildcats (1-1), led by coach Rich Hennessey, opened the season with a 20-14 victory over Ardsley, but the host Wildcats are coming off a tough 33 19 loss of Our Lady of Lourdes (Rockland) last Saturday. Westlake quarterback John DOnofrio proved the Wildcats passing game is legitimate by tossing two touchdown passes, one to Rich Maio and another to Matt Hill in last weeks loss. Anthony Rotunno ran back a fumble recovery 43 yards for the Wildcats other score.
Bobcats coach John Naughton has his team on a good run, working toward erasing the memory of last seasons disappointing 3-5 record. Byram Hills has rolled over its first two opponents, crushing Peekskill 34-8 and blanking Yonkers 42-0 on the strength of its balanced offensive attack featuring Bobcats quarterback Alex OBrien and a host of running backs.
OBrien keys a Bobcats passing game that can slice up defenses. He completed nine of 11 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns, one to Matt DeBold and another to Peter DiCristofaro. AJ Kalmancy and Connor Morley each had 57 rushing yards last week, but once the game was decided Byram Hills used 12 backs that combined for 274 rushing yards. Sal DeAngelo made all six of his point-after-touchdown kicks to help key the Byram Hills special teams effort.
Byram Hills has faced two inferior opponents thus far, but its pass/rush offense seems capable of moving the ball against anyone and Westlake will be tested. Westlake struggled to stop the run last week, but will be motivated against a local rival and should offer a tougher test for Byram Hills.
