WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The trend of some high school student-athletes giving Division I college commitments even before they play a varsity game has been evident in both boys and girls lacrosse.

This week, Brody Firestein, a standout on Mamaroneck High School's junior varsity team as an eighth-grader this past spring, verbally committed to Penn State University.

Firestein, an athletic midfielder who is already 6-foot tall, will attend the Brunswick School this fall.
