Red Sox, Phillies to Play in Armonk Baseball Final

Facing an eight-run deficit after three innings was not the ideal situation for the Red Sox in a senior league first-round baseball playoff game in the Armonk Baseball League. The second-seeded Red Sox would begin chipping away at the lead and would eventually scale the mountain, overtaking the third-seeded Mets, 12-10.

The Red Sox will play the fourth-seeded Phillies in the championship game Sunday, 9 a.m. The Phillies shocked the top-seeded Yankees, 14-4. “It was great effort by the entire team,” Red Sox assistant coach David Starker said.

Starker cited Ricky Karanfilian and Teddy Kreutcher with delivering big hits, enabling the Red Sox to rally. He said the team’s three pitchers -- Andrew Capasso, Glenn Hammer and Nick Contillo all pitched well.  The trio limited the Mets to two runs over the final six innings.

Phillies’ manager Frank Spadafino was very happy for his team. “Playing little league is such a great part of growing up and most of our players have been with Armonk Baseball since they first picked up a bat and a glove,” Spadafino said. “Despite that commitment, many have not yet had that opportunity to play in a championship game and the boys are looking forward to the big game and hopefully bringing home a trophy.”
