Quest for Section 1 Baseball Title Begins

Area high school baseball teams tie on the spikes beginning Wednesday in quest of the Section 1 championship in four classes – Class AA, Class A, Class B and Class C.

The tournament includes teams from Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties in the Section 1 region of the New York State Public Schools Athletic Association. It kicks off Thursday.

The top teams in Class AA include No. 1 seed Mamaroneck, second-seed R.C Ketcham, No. 3 Arlington and No. 4 John Jay-East Fishkill. In Class A, Lakeland is No 1, Kennedy No. 2, Pearl River No. 3 and Yonkers No. 4.

The smaller schools Class B is led by top-seeded Keio, followed by Valhalla, Hastings and Briarcliff, respectively. Class C, which has the fewest schools in Section 1 competition, goes directly to its semifinal bracket with No. 4 Hamilton visiting No. 1 Tuckahoe and No. 3 Solomon Schechter at No. 2 Haldane.

Section 1 softball seedings and brackets will be determined and released on May 26.
