Phillies are Armonk Baseball League Senior Champs

The Phillies had a rough regular season in the Armonk Baseball League Senior Division, winning two of 11 games. This led to a first-round playoff game with the top-seeded Yankees, who won the regular-season title. The Phillies showed the regular season meant nothing, beating the Yankees by a double-digit margin. The Phillies completed their post-season run Sunday with a 6-1 victory over the Red Sox in the Senior Division championship game.

Jack Hatheway, Jake Honig and Brian Schoenfeld combined on the win. The Red Sox scored their run in the top of the second inning to even the score. The score was tied at 1-1 through two innings when the Phillies took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the third.

“We had great pitching from Jack, Jake and Jon and sterling defense, highlighted by back-to-back, inning-ending double plays turned by Brian, Jack and Jon Spadafino,” Phillies’ manager Frank Spadafino said. “The fact that the dads were able to share this win with their sons on Father’s Day made it all the more special.”

Spadafino credited the Red Sox for a fine season. “The Red Sox are a great team, coached by a group of dedicated dads in Frank Benish, David Starker and Ed Hammer,” Spadafino said. “We knew we had to play our absolute best baseball to beat them and we were lucky to pull out the win.”
